Cool Kiwi Webmail Frequently Asked Questions

1. How can I get Help using my Cool Kiwi Email Account?
Simply click on the 'help' button in Cool Kiwi Webmail to access online Help. For personal assistance you can contact us at http://contact.coolkiwi.co.nz or email help@coolkiwi.co.nz

2. Is my email address @coolkiwi.co.nz or @coolkiwi.com?
Cool Kiwi Webmail accounts end in @coolkiwi.com. If you have set up a coolkiwi.com email account, you can add a coolkiwi.co.nz free email address which also filters out unsolicited commercial email (SPAM), by Clicking here and filling in the form to request one. You don't have to be a cool kiwi webmail member to get a coolkiwi.co.nz email address-you can link a coolkiwi.co.nz email address to any email account worldwide.

You only have a coolkiwi.co.nz email address if you requested one and it's been set up, otherwise your email address is @coolkiwi.com. You can check if you have a coolkiwi.co.nz email address activated by sending an email to yourself @coolkiwi.co.nz and seeing if it is received in your inbox. If not, Request one Now!

3. Why not just give webmail users a coolkiwi.co.nz email address automatically?
coolkiwi.co.nz email addresses can used with any email account worldwide, not only coolkiwi.com webmail. Imagine your coolkiwi.co.nz email address as being a buffer between SPAM email senders and your mailbox. It provides a cooler email address and also an extra level of SPAM protection for any email user-not only coolkiwicom webmail users. To provide this extra 'buffer', coolkiwi.co.nz email addresses have to be set up by us and individually linked to your specific email account. This is an effective way to block unsolicited commercial emails, and it's also why coolkiwi.co.nz email addresses have to be added to your nominated email account on request and can't simply be provided automatically to our webmail users.

4. How much storage space do I get for my emails and attachments?
With the FREE version you get 25 megabytes of storage space for your emails and attachments.
With the Mail Plus version you can get up to 1 Gigabyte as well as a host of other benefits, for around $US2 per month.

5. How can you give me all this for free? What do you get out of it?
With FREE Cool Kiwi Email the service is ad-supported and sponsored by our friends at NZFriendFinder.com

We also think that once they've tried our service, many users will choose to upgrade to our ad-free Mail Plus service that is ad-free, increases storage space to a massive 1 Gigabyte or more for emails and attachments as well as a host of other benefits, for around $US2 per month.

6. How is it possible for Cool Kiwi users to get less SPAM than the biggest email services?
First, if you have added a coolkiwi.co.nz SPAM-filtering email address, all email from known SPAM senders is automatically blocked from reaching your account. Second, bigger isn't always better when it comes to SPAM. Because Cool Kiwi is one of web-based email's best kept secrets, SPAM email senders don't target 'Cool Kiwi' members as much as some other services. They're better off concentrating on randomly bombarding email users at the more common email addresses, with millions more members, than bothering 'Cool Kiwis.' 7. How do I make my outgoing email address end in '@coolkiwi.co.nz' when I send emails with 'Cool Kiwi?'
Once you have requested your coolkiwi.co.nz email address and been notified that your coolkiwi..co.nz address has been set up, you can change your reply address as follows. Log in to the Cool Kiwi email service. Click on 'Options' and then click on the 'Preferences' link. In 'Reply Address' delete your old @coolkiwi.com email address and type in your new @coolkiwi.co.nz email address. Hit the 'Save' button. That's it! Your email reply address will now show as ending in @coolkiwi.co.nz instead of @coolkiwi.com

8. How do I set the time on my outgoing emails to my local time zone?
By default Cool Kiwi webmail is set to Pacific Standard time (ie. New Zealand time.) If you are one of the 50% of Cool Kiwis using your account from outside of New Zealand you can set your time zone to your local time zone by clicking on 'Options' and 'Preferences' and 'Set Time Zone', and choosing your local time zone from the list and clicking on 'Save.'

9. Why does Cool Kiwi have 'SPAM-Filters'?
SPAM-Filters are an important way to block unwanted emails. Without 'SPAM-Filters' major email services would be virtually unusable. Unfortunately, so much SPAM is received by users of some free email services, that a lot of it still gets though, unless the filters are set to only allow emails from pre-defined senders. This means legitimate emails end up being blocked along with the SPAM.

Any email user can end up on a mailing list and eventually receive SPAM. This is why, even though Cool Kiwi is relatively 'SPAM-Free' compared with many free email services, Cool Kiwi has developed customisable SPAM Filters which can be set by you to prevent unwanted emails, whilst not blocking legitimate emails. Click on 'Options' and 'Preferences' and 'Email Rule' to send emails to a specific folder instead of your Inbox (e.g. straight to 'Trash') if they come from someone who has previously sent you unwanted mail, or if they contain certain words, phrases or subject lines (e.g. 'get rich quick.') Click on 'Options' and 'Preferences' and 'Bulk Mail Handling' to choose how you want emails sent to yourself and a bulk list of others to be handled. Either 'treat it normally' (bulk mail ends up in your inbox) or 'send it to bulk mail folder' (keep your inbox clean, but still be able to read legitimate 'bulk emails' whilst deleting mail from unsolicited senders without reading it.)
